New Members

NOTICE FOR NOVICE ROWERS

 

All new novice rowers will be expected to attend two introductory sessions at no charge (one on dry land and one on water). Further training sessions will run over approx. six weeks depending on group competency levels, at a cost of $65.00+$5.00 insurance per person. This fee is payable after the two FREE introductory lessons but before the commencement of the first training session. New members who pay their full membership fees within seven days of completing their competency based training will be entitled to a discount, equal to the full value of their training sessions. This means that "at the end of the day" only the cost of the membership fee plus insurance is actually paid.

 

FEES  joining after 1 July 2004 members are expected to pay a pro‑rata payment for the remaining part of the year.

 

PORT MACQUARIE ROWING CLUB COACHING PROGRAM

The aims of this program are to provide the opportunity for interested members to learn the correct rowing technique, to develop rowers to crew rowing with the view to racing and/or recreational enjoyment, with ongoing support for all those interested in further developing their skills, within the resources, both monetary and human, available to the Club. The Captain and Vice Captain take responsibility for overseeing the coaching program.

 

 

STAGE 1

  •  Novice ‑ 2 free sessions and then 6 session training program organised by Captain, with assistance of persons who have volunteered as Assistant Coaches.

  • Attendance at PMRC Assistant Coach induction required before members are able to assist with coaching.

  •  PMRC How to Row Guide will be provided, from which all coaching is directed.

  • Ongoing inservice will be provided for Assistant Coaches.

  •  The initial coaching time is Saturday morning at 8am. New rowers will be assigned to an Assistant Coach and mutually acceptable times other than Saturday morning, may be organised between Assistant Coach and novice rower,

  • The Secretary will ensure Assistant Coaches have all they require ie copies of How to Row Guide, contact details of novice rowers, resources.

  • Boats will be allocated by the Captain and the Boat Booking Schedule will be used to assist management of boats.

  • A copy of the How to Row Guide and CD will be made available for all those that commit to the 6 session training program.

  • Video resources are available and can be borrowed for 1 week at a time, with records kept in appropriate book in Clubhouse.

  •  Record of session attendance is to be recorded either by the Secretary or Assistant Coach, in the book provided and kept in Club House.

STAGE 2   

  • Following completion of the 6 session program, all novices who wish to this stage rowers will be moving continue rowing will need to pay, full more independent membership and will thence continue under the guidance of the previously assigned Assistant Coach. 

  • The PMRC How to Row Guide will remain the guide for Assistant Coaches and novice rowers to follow.

  • Assistant Coaches will cheek with Captain or Vice Captain re suitable boats to use and boats will then be booked by Assistant Coaches using the Boat Booking Schedule on the notice board in the Boatshed.

  • The Captain and Vice Captain will offer a time for Assistant Coaches to meet with the novice rower, check their progress and determine when rowers are sufficiently competent to safely row by themselves, and handle boats appropriately.

  • When full membership is paid by novice rower and it is mutually determined by the Captain and Assistant Coach that the rower is sufficiently competent to safely row by themselves, and handle boats appropriately, arrangements for keys to Club are to be made with Peter Mooney

STAGE3

Development towards crew, rowing and racing:

  • By this stage rowers will be moving towards a more independent situation, with less input necessary from Assistant Coach.

  • Rowers can check with their Assistant Coach, Captain or Vice Captain, if there are any, concerns or questions.

  • Decide on individual aims ‑ level of skill desired, recreational rowing or racing.

  • To achieve race standard 3‑4 boat sessions per week are recommended.

  • Develop knowledge of rules of racing.

  • Practice race technique

STAGE4

Racing Crews:

  • The Captain will inform members of' the Regattas. including events in which the Club will participate for the season and invite members to nominate possible crews.

  • Coaching and training as advertised, will then be provided.

  • There is an expectation that all competitors will assist with boat loading and unloading and other regatta duties a s requested by, the Captain.

Fees applicable to racing:

  • Competitors must be paid up members of Port Macquarie Rowing Club

  •  Race entry fee ‑ commonly, referred to as seat money' varies between $4.00 for local Regional regattas and $15.00 for NSWRA Masters Championship Regattas

  • Transport fee to cover cost of fuel to tow boats to and from regattas

  • Accommodation fee

  • Competitors must be members of NSWRA

  • Club racing uniform must be worn.
