Duties of a Starter

The Starter shall have the crews in charge (5) five minutes before the time appointed for the start of the first Division, Heat or Race. The Starter has charge until the race is started. The Umpire should help the Starter with getting the boats into line and away. The Starter gives the signal to start and is responsible for its precision. A crew not complying with the Starters  instructions, or not reporting to the start as prescribed may be removed from the race or warned. A crew causing any delay or interference with the start may be warned. Such warnings shall have the same effect as a false start.

Crews should be organised well before the start line. Keep an eye on wind and water conditions. Bring crews down to the start in a good line. Ensure you are clear and confident. Let the crews know that the start instruction will be - "ATTENTION" followed by "GO" along with the buzzer.
