Duties of a Starter

  • The Starter shall have the crews in charge (5) five minutes before the time appointed for the start of the first Division, Heat or Race.
  • The Starter has charge until the race is started.
  • The Umpire should help the Starter with getting the boats into line and away.
  • The Starter gives the signal to start and is responsible for its precision.
  • A crew not complying with the Starters  instructions, or not reporting to the start as prescribed may be removed from the race or warned.
  • A crew causing any delay or interference with the start may be warned. Such warnings shall have the same effect as a false start.
  • Crews should be organised well before the start line.
  • Keep an eye on wind and water conditions.
  • Bring crews down to the start in a good line.
  • Ensure you are clear and confident.
  • Let the crews know that the start instruction will be -
  • "ATTENTION" followed by "GO" along with the buzzer.
